Resumo: Epidemiological research, cross that aimed to examine the self-reported health status of the elderly population of the city of Cuiaba-MT. Data collection was conducted with 573 individuals using the questionnaire BOAS (Brazil Old Age Schedule). Data were analyzed descriptively and inferential analysis used were the prevalence ratio and Poisson regression model. The results showed that most seniors are female, aged between 60 and 69 years, with low education and income. Regarding marital status, 72.8% of men are married or have a partner and 43.6% of women widows. They perceive their health as excellent or good, have chronic health problems, the main problems hypertension and diabetes, vision and hearing autoavaliam as excellent or good and use drugs. The drugs most used were antihypertensives and diuretics. Regarding the use of medical and dental services, more than half of seniors use the SUS (Unified Health System), and the majority is satisfied with the medical services used. The main reasons for dissatisfaction were to delay making appointments / tests and the waiting time to be served at the doctor. Almost half of the elderly 41% do not seek dental long as the state does not need dental services. The most used medical services in the last 3 months were a doctor and clinical examinations. In relation to activities of daily living (ADLs), most are independent and can carry out the activities of the four difficulty levels. The prevalence of self-assessment poor / very poor was 30.88%. In inferential analysis, the variables that remained associated with self-assessment of health status of poor / very poor were: having income less than 2 minimum wages (PR = 2.68, 95% CI 1.19 to 6.07), having 4 or more self-reported morbidities (PR = 4.28, 95% CI 2.87 to 6.39) and to have urinary incontinence (UI) (PR = 1.33, 95% CI 1.04 - 1.70). The results point to the need for strategies to promote health and well-being of the elderly population. It is concluded that several aspects influence in how the elderly perceive their health, including demographic, socioeconomic and health conditions.
