Resumo: | The scarcity water ́s problem requires conservation measures of water resource are more and better implemented, in order to promote the sustainability of the environment in which they operate. Within this context the higher education institutions (IES) has a fundamental role and should be like an example of responsibility about the environment. Seeking to assume this responsibility and to promote and boost sustainable development, the Federal University of Mato Grosso, Cuiabá ́s campus, aims to establish and diagnose sustainable initiatives for conservation and rationalization of water. Among the points to be diagnosed is the pilot system behavior using rain waters in the Faculty of Economics (FE). The system consists of asbestos cement roof, metal chutes, vertical conductors PVC, lower reservoir with a volume of 20m3 automated discharge, and two reservoirs 3.m3 (one to rainwater and other to drinking water) to supply the toilets. Thus, this study aims to analyze the behavior of this system through performance indicators, from the definition of usable potential of rain, the monitoring of water consumption in the FE building and rating the water quality in the reservoir at the Faculty of Economics for non-potable purposes. In this intention, were performed about pH, turbidity, color, conductivity, BOD, COD, hardness, solids and soluble toais, total coliforms and Escherichia coli, as well as data collection from hydrometers of drinking water, and rainwater hydrometer to supply toilets installed in the building. The rainwater potential of use was determined based on rainfall of Cuiaba - MT following the recommended by NBR - 15.527/2007. Thus, the analysis of rainfall revealed a high concentration of the precipitate volume in a single quarter (67.6% in 2015), and a dry quarter with an interval of up to 31 days without rain. By monitoring the water consumption observed that the system serves 21% of total consumption in the FE building and 62% of the consumed only in toilets. The analysis of physical-chemical and microbiological variables indicated a quality commitment, especially about the variables that are associated with the presence of solids and impurities originating from roof washing, as a result of non-compliance with some aspects recommended by NBR 15527/2007. The return on investment occurs in a period over 23 years. Evaluation of results subsidized propositions that contribute to the development of goals to UFMT ́s Water Plan |
