Resumo: The present work analyzes the construction of memories of women who are or were connected to the Penal Establishment of Três Lagoas/MS, from the biographical narratives in letters of a heterogeneous group constituted by teachers, convicts, former students and a social worker, who establishes a link to the issue of formal education. This work intends to study the autobiographical writing of these participants and the memorialistic conception based on autobiographical narratives, as part of the recognition of the life story of each subject-author (a) and their consequent empowerment. The main objective of the research is to provoke reflections on the contributions of formal education developed in the Penal Establishment of Três Lagoas-MS, as a liberating practice. Formal education in prisons should not be a trivial exchange of the segment conceived in regular schools, but a typical EJA that considers the peculiarities and specificities of the prison space and of the characters in forms of students and educators, which acknowledges the controversies and emphasizes Freire's principles of liberating and emancipatory education. The methodological paths taken by this qualitative research, included the following moments: bibliographical research, analysis of written documents, such as laws, guidelines, exploratory research of the medical records of inmates of the Female Penal Establishment of Três Lagoas/MS; I resorted to the theoretical contributions of cultural studies, narrative research, teacher training, teaching knowledge and youth and adult education, receiving autobiographical narratives.
