Resumo: The research aims to understand gender violence in the city of Três Lagoas-MS without losing sight of broader processes that involve the pillars of a sexist and capitalist society. We analyze the data and information generated in the research with the authors of Geography and Law, two sciences that address the issue of gender violence, although with their particularities. The research is being carried out in the context of the Post-Graduate Program in Geography, at the Três Lagoas Campus, with the support of Capes. Methodologically, the research is based on the survey and reading of a bibliographic reference aimed at understanding the studies on gender violence and the construction of female submission throughout time and space. For data collection we consulted digital platforms that provide data on gender violence, especially in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, as well as a survey at the Women's Police Station of Três Lagoas, to obtain local data. From the qualitative point of view, we conducted two interviews with women who had experienced violence, as well as an interview with a criminal lawyer and, finally, we interviewed the women's police station. We evidenced that the women interviewed needed psychological support, either to leave the relationship or not to return to the abusive relationship. We noticed the cycle of violence present in these relationships, in which the partners, when feeling diminished in their status as men, tend to initiate acts of violence against their partners, or against third parties, in order to reaffirm their dominant position. With the speeches of the lawyer and the delegate, the weight of psychological violence within these abusive relationships was latent, corroborating the importance of psychological support to overcome the bonds of dependence created in the cycle of violence. Finally, we understand that the historical processes of female submission have strengthened macho thinking, which is intensely present in society, corroborating so that the active agent of gender violence has its guilt placed in a relative way.
