Resumo: This work is included in the Postgraduate Program in Cultural Studies at the Aquidauana Campus/PPGCult/CPAQ at the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul/UFMS through the Subjects & Languages research line. Its purpose is to analyze the comic strips and cartoons by cartoonist Laerte Coutinho published on her official Instagram account (@laertegenial) during the last three months of 2018 in the context of the Brazilian presidential elections in which Jair Messias Bolsonaro, far-right candidate of the Social Liberal Party (PSL), would be elected. Data collection took place based on the selection of arts that Laerte Coutinho produced and posted on his social network at the time in question and which were in accordance with the themes under analysis. To rescue and help select the events of the past year, the research used as support the book by journalist Mario Magalhães “2018, about struggles and tears” which brings a myriad of aberrative events, which although recent in relation to the time of writing the dissertation, so numerous, it is practically impossible to have a retrospective just referring to memory. For journalistic research and government data, there was access to digital newspapers such as “Folha de São Paulo”, The Intercept Brasil and “Brasil de Fato” in addition to websites such as the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) and the Superior Electoral Court (TSE). For the basis of Cultural Studies, readings, among others, by Maria Elisa Cevasco “Ten lessons on Cultural Studies”; Richard Johnson, Ana Escosteguy and Norma Schulman “What, after all, is Cultural Studies?”. In relation to knowledge about comics, the books “Unraveling the comics” by Scott McCloud, “History of comics” by Álvaro de Moya and “Comics and sequential art” by Will Eisner were dedicated to reading. As a result, there is the feeling that Brazil hasflirted with the apocalypse. Keywords: Comic Strips. Cultural Studies. Laerte Coutinho. Elections 2018
