Resumo: |
The importance of urban gardens in tackling nutritional food insecurity has been the subject of much global discussion. Innovative technologies have been applied to horticultural production in various forms, facilitating the cultivation of vegetables, herbs, and aromatic plants in confined spaces, including courtyards, public areas, playgrounds, private spaces, undeveloped public lands, and urban green areas. This practice aims to encourage the consumption of higher quality nutritional foods. The research was based on primary field data collection, which was later compared with information from previous studies on the topic conducted in different locations. The primary focus of the analysis is the role played by urban gardens in reducing hunger and strengthening food security in the municipality of Campo Grande. The findings indicated that the studied regions in the municipality show an increase in producers’ awareness of urban sustainability, food security, and the responsible use of natural resources. A trend towards more sustainable food production was observed, contributing to the improvement of the local community’s nutritional quality. This work highlights the contribution of urban gardens in promoting healthier and more sustainable food systems in urban centers. Keywords: Local community; Urban areas; Public Management. |
