Resumo: The present research is based on the trajectory of the contemporary traveling artist from Minas Gerais Paulo Nazareth (1977), focusing on works from 2 series developed in the displacement, “Notícias de América” (2011-2012) and “Cadernos de África” (2012-). The artist carries out an autobiographical itinerary, in which he demonstrates a high sense of his mestizo identity, and in which he acts as a living archive of his own individual history-memory that merges with the collective. Throughout the text, I define the analysis strategy, supported by a relationship between Art, Anthropology and Semiotics, as well as walking as an active practice in the production, which is supported by the artist's experience reports, recorded in the interviews granted by Paulo Nazareth, in the critical texts about his works and in the works themselves as primary sources. I develop a reflection on walking as an aesthetic practice, as presented by the Italian architect Francesco Careri (1966), and also on the writings of the French ethnologist and anthropologist Marc Augé (1935), on what he called supermodernity, especially in the concepts of anthropological place. and non-place. The latter has inspired research beyond the field of anthropology, including anthropology, in the field of contemporary visual arts, with the aim of investigating the relationship between the artistic production of Paulo Nazareth and the places he travels through, through the records, which are also works of art, and with the focus on the possibility of these works acting in the resignification of certain cultural symbols, through the artistic relationship with these places. For the analysis of the works, the methodological approach adopted is anchored in the general semiotics of Charles S. Peirce (1839-1914), as well as in the publications of the Brazilian researcher and professor Lucia Santaella (1944), among other scholars of this semiotics who propose it as a possibilities of reading and analyzing works of art. Finally, in the works analyzed, together with the knowledge acquired through the research, it was possible to identify the points of connection with the theoretical concepts, as well as elements that corroborated with the proof of the resignification of these places in places close to what we understand as “at home”. The research sought to contribute to the expansion of the studies of art as a language and its interdisciplinary links.
