Resumo: | The research analyzes the association between fertility and land use systems in the Amazon region of Santarém, Pará and its possible links with sex preferences for children. After a systematization of the sample data collected by the survey carried out in 2003 and a selection of the available databases we propose a methodology that combines statistical models with descriptive analyzes. The Latent Class Analysis (LCA) model was used to determine land use systems, and a negative binomial model was used to measure the relationship between those systems and parity. The statistical results did not show a relation between land use and fertility dynamics for these research conditions. However, the descriptive results showed differences in parity due to land use. It was also proven that the sex preference, measured through binary models, has an effect on family size. This finding can be correlated with the different demands depending on each productive system, as well as other features of the context. |
