Resumo: Sewage sludge is a waste rich in organic matter and nutrients generated in Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTPs). WWTPs are essential to reduce the severe degradation of water resources. The need of wastewater treatment is a factor that increases the pressure on government officials to expand the number of WWTPs in urban centers. Besides this question, the use of sewage sludge generated in this process is also increasing on agricultural fields and also the need of safe disposal in the environment. However, in order to apply sludge in the soil parameters defined by Section V of CONAMA Resolution No. 375, 2006, should be respected. They provide locational restrictions and Soil Suitability of Application Areas, described in the Article 15, on which areas the application of sewage sludge will not be allowed. The analyses of several variables expressed in this section of the resolution can be performed with the use of computer tools, specifically with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applying GIS techniques. This tool permits not only more accuracy and precision in the analyses but also the integration that enables storage and management of such data as part of the total set of available or registered geoinformation. The Jaíba project located in the north of the state of Minas Gerais has more than 65,000 ha area which can be irrigated being a region with high agricultural potential, among where the Sector C2 occupies an area of 9,557 ha. After processing the data in a GIS environment and after observing the soil fitness classes eligible to receive sewage sludge, it was observed that the Jaíba Project C2 Sector presents a favorable scenario for agricultural use of sewage sludge, with good and regular conditions in 78% of the study area. This result arises mainly from the presence of Alfisol and Oxisols which have physical and chemical characteristics that contribute to the disposal of this waste safely.
