Resumo: | In the construction of the historiography of national modern architecture, Maceio's production is restricted to the presentation made by Mindlin (1956), in the book “Modern Architecture in Brazil” and to the work of the architect from Maranhão formed by the National School of Fine Arts (1945), Lygia Fernandes. This scenario was changed with the publication of the book “Arquitetura Moderna: An Attitude Alagoana” by Silva (1991), which addressed modern experiences in Alagoas for the first time. Even with the recognized efforts of Silva (1991), there was no continuity in studies on production, leaving gaps to be filled. Therefore, this dissertation aims to expand the panorama of modern architecture in the Center of Maceió between 1940 and 1980, with an emphasis on vertical examples. The focus on the Centro neighborhood is justified by its historical and cultural relevance and the construction of the first modern examples in the city. The definition of the cut comes from the temporality of modern production throughout the years 1940 to 1980 and, also, from expanding the panorama of this production in Maceió/AL. For the development of the dissertation, the main bases were Silva's book (1991) and the files from the approval sector of Maceió/AL City Hall, to, them, expand the panorama of modern production in Maceió/AL. A total of 105 examples were collected, 86 of which were not listed in any of the regional references to modern architecture. The emphasis on vertical examples resulted from the specificity of the Center of Maceió/AL, which is not completely vertical, making these examples relevant in the mostly horizontal landscape and references of modern architecture. To better present them, selection criteria related to volume were developed, being the expression in the landscape, to the place, linked to the construction of the building and its surroundings, and spatiality, with descriptions of sectorizations in the plan and their uses. |
