Resumo: The present dissertation is a case study carried out at the Union of the Workers of Brazilian Federal Educational Institutions (SINDIFES), with the aim of understanding the informational practices of the affiliated members, the Administrative Technicians in Education TAE, who access information within the union scope. The services rendered have a focus in the actions developed by the Department of Legal Assistance, the Memorial Center and the Work Groups - GT. In order to carry out thisresearch, one attempted to understand all the intervenient factors in the history of Brazilian unions, such as the transformation of the labor world due to the advances of technology and the productive re-structuring, with an emphasis on the themes: outsourcing and job insecurity, which affect all workers, independently of whether the jobs are formal, informal or civil service. Therefore, in order to develop the present research, the adopted theoretical base lies in the perspective of the User Study and its approaches, with an emphasis on the social approach, ranging from thepresupposition that the informational practices of individuals who use information in the scope of unions are also defined by their social interactions. In association to the theoretical perspective, one used a qualitative method, with the use of participative observation aided by the semi-structured interview technique. Firstly, the results show that the interpretation of the information accessed within the union scope takesan important social role, as an element of action that may be of use for the process of political awareness of the affiliated member who uses this information. Secondly, one showed that TAE perceive the union as a representative entity in favor of the collectivity and of the union actions that contribute for the construction of a political awareness. Finally, the research also suggests that the works related to the discussion of questions regarding the daily basis of TAE still need to be deepened, especially when one considers the relevance of the Work Groups.
