Resumo: The theoretical effort of this thesis strides towards answering questions such as: Why are some organizations more or less prone to have interorganizational relationships? What components are associated with the development and continuity of interorganizational relationships? How does the corporate environment influence the companies tendency to develop interorganizational relationships, regarding firms within agglomerations? Such questions are anchored on the explanation of the formative elements of the interorganizational relationships and on the unfolding of this relationship in the firm and the corporate complex they are in. In a context that the supply chain area goes through a theoretical sedimentation process, this thesis attempts to combine theoretical approaches rarely explored in this area. From one side, the starting point was the Relational View principles and from the other, the Social Capital concept. The intention was to support and deepen the understanding of the interorganizational phenomena in its relations with its formative elements and its unfolding in the companies and in their firms agglomerations. Within the methodological procedures, the empirical field was approached through a comparative study among the furniture complexes of Mirassol (state of São Paulo) and Ubá (state of Minas Gerais). The research had a quantitative and qualitative nature, for which semi structured interviews were used in 40 furniture firms and in 13 support entities present in both agglomerations studied. From a qualitative point of view, the content of the interview was analyzed, and from a quantitative point of view statistic measurements were described. The results allowed us to identify the components that limit the transition of a relationship from a non-collaborative to a collaborative condition, and thus prevailing a transitional logic instead of a relational logic. A corporate environment that is perceived as risky or charged with suspicion, competitiveness and opportunism, in which effective governance mechanisms are absent, restricts the tendency to invest in relationship assets, share information, as well as the complementation of firms. Parallel to that, possible relational gains find space in the relationship between small groups of entrepreneurs, whose configurations allow control and adjustment mechanisms in their relationship. It was possible to outline an association between elements that constitute the social capital and performance measurements in furniture firms. On the other hand, regarding the firms agglomerations as unities, it was not possible to identify management elements from the supply chain that generate competitive advantages.
