Resumo: | The main objective of the present work is identifying some of the reasons that lead the students of the Programa de Educação Profissional do Estado de Minas Gerais Vocational Training Program of Minas the Gerais State of Brazil (PEP/MG) to leave the vocational training course or to continuing on the program until getting the degree of technician of medium level. The researches carried out on that thesis on the program evince the existence of high rates of dropout, with average occurrence of desistence of students around 30% by classroom. The PEP/MG is free of charge for the student, since the govern of the state of Minas Gerais pays for the course and also for the didactical material to be used by the student in private vocational schools of the State. The dropout phenomenon in PEP/MG constitutes a serious problem for the educational system of the State due to the high public investment directed towards it. This study investigates the possible reasons for school dropout and the condition that can allow the student's permanence. The investigation begins on the year 2007, date of creation of the Program, and finishes in 2010. In order to achieve the goals set, we begun with the theoretical studies on School Dropout and Vocational Teaching. Later, we adopted the methodological approach of triangulation research, involving two empirical studies on PEP/MG, carried out by the author, and secondary statistical data on dropout of PEP/MG program from the government of Minas Gerais. The studies on the dropout school phenomenon gained expressivity with the democratization of access to vocational education. There are few studies on school dropout in Brazil, and specifically on technical medium education. On the theoretical field that work analysis school organization and its place on vocational training, for this it resorts to the concepts of Active School, Human Capital Theory, Minimal State, neoliberalism and Unitary school. School dropout is nowadays one of the biggest problems of high school, and in particular of vocational education in Brazil. In the state of Minas Gerais, by the implementation of PEP/MG, this problem is evinced as it show the high dropout rates. |
