The objective of this work was to study the anorexia as social phenomenon, analyzing the proper definition and treatment of this pathology for the Medicine, exploring the genealogical perspective of this science, understanding the social value of the food and the relation that the anorexica develops with the alimentary diet. It was used of the concepts of "society of the spectacle", "culture of the narcisism" andthe theories of genre as theoretical tools capable to understand the value of the body image as propulse factor to the development of the anorexia.
