Resumo: | Aluminum cans with an organic coating are used in Brazil as packaging for carbonated beverages (soft drinks, beer), which act as electrolyte solutions. These electrolytes, in contact with the inner cans, can start a corrosion process of aluminum. The dissolution of metallic ions can change the flavor, compromising the product quality. This work aims to evaluate the corrosion resistance of aluminum in environments of different types of carbonated beverages using measurements of Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS). The Scanning Electron Microscopy, with Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), was used to characterize the metal surface. The electrolytes used were soft drinks cola, guarana basis, beer and tonic water. The results of SEM / EDS and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy allowed identifying flaws in the application of organic coating on aluminum surface. The less aggressive electrolyte with respect to corrosion among the different types of carbonated beverages selected was the tonic water. |
