Resumo: The aim this study was to evaluate the quality of root canal treatment (RCT), factors related to the coronal restoration (CR), caries and periodontal clinical parameters in the periapical status of endodontically treated teeth. patients with RCT acomplished in Pos-graduation in Endodontics, University Fereral of Valeys of the Jequitinhonha and Mucuri (UFVJM) in the period 2002-2005, were reevaluation clinically and radiographically between October 2009 and January 2010. Data were collected in records dentistry (age, gender, address, phone number, treated tooth, status periapical preoperative treatment, technical instrumentation and obturation employees, radiography end of the filling and the type of coronal restoration). Clinically, were considered factors related to caries, RC and periodontal parameters. Radiographically evaluated the quality of the root canal filling, or the RC, the periapical status, factors related to cariesand cast post. Statistical analysis verified possible association between the variables of interest and periapical status. Overall 124 patients were reassessed, which had 157 endodontically treated teeth, which resulted in 291 root canals. Data were organized and analyzed according to the study design, sampling unit and variables and are presented in four papers, whose main results were: high frequency of root canals with fillings perfect (54.6%) and satisfactory (37.5%) and reduced deficit (7.9%); the quality of fillings varied significantly an fuction on the groups of root canals (p<0.05) and teeth (p=0.001) and significantly influenced the periapical status (p=0.016); taper altered (OR=5.83, CI=2,14-15,89) and preoperative periapical lesion (OR=3.80, CI=1,43-10,13) significantly influenced the periapical status for sampling unit root; for the sampling tooth, preoperative periapical normality was associated with successful TCR (OR=4.92, CI=1,72-14,04); the success rate of the TCR was 86.6%; except for primary lesion of caries (p=0.019) and apical extension (p=0.003), the variables related to dental caries, RC, quality filling and clinical periodontal parameters did not influence the periapical status of endodontically treated teeth (p>0.05). In conclusion, among the factors evaluated, the preoperative periapical status was the main factor affecting the prognosis of the TCR.
