This dissertation was built with the proposed approach the agricultural teaching in the state of Minas Gerais, in the period of 1939 to 1955, thinking while product of public policies immersed in a particular thinking of modernization. Such a temporal and spatial clipping takes place from part of the trajectory of an institution which is inaugurated as Fazenda Escola de Florestal (Florestal School Farm), in April 24th 1939, created to be exemplary for the state; afterwards Escola Média de Agricultura (Agricultural Senior High School) till it was incorporated to the Universidade Rural do Estado de Minas Gerais (Minas Gerais State Rural University), in December 5th 1955. it is aimed to understand how the pedagogical practices developed in the institution related to the designs of projects and possible local and/or national institutional, pointing to an attempt of lining of the expressions around agricultural teaching to a greater project of modernization, sizing both agencies and agents present in this force fields, to understand the very conception of rural education which was being constructed. Inserting the problematic which involves Minas Gerais rural education, the focus of the analysis which points to the work with diverse sources located in the archive of the above-quoted institution, files and public libraries in the Museu Histórico de Pará de Minas/MG (Pará de Minas Historic Museum/MG) and in the e no Arquivo Histórico da Universidade Federal de Viçosa UFV (Viçosa Federal University Historic File - UFV).
