Resumo: This research was conducted in order to identify and characterize the themes, subjects and bibliographical references that lead to the academic formation in the undergraduate courses in Librarianship that are organized at universities with Graduate Programs in Information and Library Science. Thus, the data collection was analyzed through quantitative and qualitative techniques. It identified ten institutions which offer undergraduate courses in Librarianship and Graduate Programs in Information and Library Science at the same school. The analysis of the description of the subjects totalized 284 in the courses of Librarianship and 281 in Graduate Programs in Information and Library Science. It was perceived that the professional librarian profile is marked by a set of subjects which form the strict core of the Librarianship. In relation to the Information and Library Science it was observed that there is a fragmentation and dispersion of the themes and subjects. This situation may be explained by the offer of Information and Library Science in different areas of research. The analysis of the documental typology of bibliographical references in both courses has revealed a predominance of the book in detriment of other documents. However, the expansion ofthe indication of articles and periodicals should be also taken into consideration. The suggested bibliography in the courses is updated, contemporary and with the predominance of the Portuguese language. It was identified 200 teachers in these courses which had their education mostly in Librarianship at undergraduate level and with Masters and Doctoral degrees in Information and Library Science. It was alsoobserved an important contingent of doctors from different areas of knowledge. The two areas become interactive as observed by the focus on the used taxonomy. However, the attempt to make a profound study of this idea may lead us to an obscure area as there is no coincidence of the nomenclature of subjects and authors in the bibliography.
