Resumo: Following an American and European movement named The Craft Beer Renaissance, such as the Slow Food Movement, in Brazil the craft beer started in 90s and, from that time, it was possible to watch the opening of many breweries, rise up of homebrewering and increase of emporiums that sells craft beers. Minas Gerais state follow those movements and, until this text has been produced, had 41 microbreweries registered, with 15 of those located on Belo Horizontes Metropolitan Area, considered the Brazilian Belgium and losing in liters production only to Santa Catarina state, biggest Brazilian national craft beer producer. The years of 2010 was a boundary for homebrewering, when has been possible to observe a boom on the implication with this activity, which rouse the interest for this study and stablished the question: why do people implicate themselves on homebrewering as a leisure practice?. In this study, with ethnographic characteristics, it was sought to observe and to describe that leisure practice using attendance and personal living in homebrewering such as interviews with homebrewers, making the interpretations of those contexts from three hypotheses: homebrewers, as practical subjects, are a social group, according as common characteristics; homebrew is an occupation which people involve, to stablish coping processes against a alienating and excluding society and; is an occupation and, as occupation, helps to construct the complex subject, which, in his wishes and needs is the main actor of the leisure process cause, such it is, construct himself while live the leisure. Homebrew, in this study, has been treated as occupation, just like purposed by Occupational Therapy theoretical references and; as a social phenomenon, from dialectical historical materialism, both of them a part of researchers academic life. The results found in the research process agrees with the hypotheses: as a social phenomenon, has been concluded that the homebrewers are a social group and, such it is, have common cultural characteristics that allow an impression in the world; is essentially a male practice, instead history in homebrew; is bourgeois, from the necessary context to its development. As an occupation, it was possible to conclude that the homebrewers notice this leisure practice straightly associated with their praxis, surrounded of meanings, as an important piece of their social and historical construction, such individual as collective and, as central part of life, allows the redetermination of being in the world.
