Resumo: | Based on the hypothesis that density and environmental quality are compatible, the objective of this study is to evaluate if the densification process has consequences for the improvement of urban environmental quality. For this, the principles that define the compact city model, present in the planning of contemporary cities, whose set of characteristics are considered as promoters of urban environmental quality and quality of life, are used as theoretical basis. Based on the construction of a set of indicators, defined based on the concepts established in the theoretical basis, it is sought to evaluate in several aspects the correlation between density and environmental quality. For this, the indicators were analyzed and correlated using OLS and GWR regression models. The results obtained showed that urban density and environmental quality do not have a strong statistical correlation. It was possible to identify, however, regions whose densely populated urban configuration occurs in conjunction with urban environmental gains, when compared to other less densely populated urban spaces of the municipality. It was possible, however, to identify regions of the city where there is a density linked to environmental quality. It was concluded that, although the densification can not be considered as promoter of environmental quality, given the low statistical correlation verified, it is possible to obtain situations where they occur together. It was noted that these areas correspond, for the most part, to the older masi planning areas, where the performance of public power is constant. This evidences the importance of the performance of public power in planning, considering that the places where the performance is more present, the results obtained were more positive. |
