Resumo: | In this work I examine the tile and mosaic panels of Pampulha architectonic set, understanding it as a visual program associated with modernist architecture in the city of Belo Horizonte, in the early 1940s. I make an approach of the wall tile with the art of memory, demonstrating how place and image were used as a way to evoke and establish a relationship of historical continuity related to that specific moment. Canonized in Luso-Brazilian culture, the tile was precisely the plastic element adopted to promote a connection between colonial and modern art and architecture, at the same time that diluted the distance between traditional and modern. Thus, I make evident that, regardless of the aesthetic and functional qualities of Pampulhas tile panels, there is a purpose for the creation and execution of a narrative in order to establish a bond between the ceramic panels and colonial past. |
