Resumo: | The axis of the present dissertation is the teaching of standard norm through the rules and metalinguistic analysis conveyed by normative grammar books. This dissertation investigates why current teaching practice is still based on standardizing grammar books, even after theirflaws have been identified by Linguistics. Four factors are presented as the major causes for such continuity. The literature in the field of Linguistics is in the center of that discussion, which is informed by the Theoretical Linguistics and Applied Linguistics literature whichcomplicate the concept of standard norm or similar terms used to refer to educated language standards as well as its teaching. This study is divided into seven sections which outline the emergence of the concern for the standard norm and the more recent resistant to it. |
