This dissertation discusses the relationship between history and literature in three ways,which are intercrossed. The first concerns the relationship between history and literatureglimpsed in important works of contemporary historiographic scenario, from Annales tothe postmoderns. The second concerns the same subject, but at this time, explored inthe critical fortune of The Devil to Pay in the Backlands, about the way these criticalstudies read the history through the novel, working with the statutes of history andliterature and, because of that, giving a resignification to them. The third way relateshistory and literature by a particular lecture, which has language and time as the mainkeys.
