The present research deals with the importance of the School of formation prison for the politics prison in the State of Minas Gerais, importance this, that becomes it an object of curiosity of the research, for being it a formation instance, in complex and singular way, of the professionals who act in the criminal units. One is about a documentary research in which if it rescues part of the history of constitution of the School of Formation in Criminal Services in Minas Gerais. The used methodology understood official, legislation, reports, plans the budgetary, statistical document analysis and indicating. Amongst the final definitions of the work, the analysis of documents took in to conclude them that the education in criminal services is essential for the professional exercise, in a context marked for critical contradictions, urgencies and critical facts, in the installment of a specialized assistance the sentenced. It concludes, also, that it has a distance between the lines of direction that establish the education in criminal services as essential and differentiated action and the social reality that if imposes, not being this politics of qualification of the state penitentiary system systematically and consistently implemented.
