Resumo: This study aimed to provide information on the basic density, volume and dry weight of barbatimão (Stryphnodendron adstringens (Mart.) Coville) to support the development of sustainable management plans in northern Minas Gerais. It was conducted in the municipality of Botumirim in the Bela Vista farm, a property of 170 acres, situated at an altitude of 1525 m between the coordinates 16 ° 96'41 .4463'' south and 43 ° 0'75 .7822'' west. We conducted a forest inventory in an area of 33.20 hectares. In the inventory 25 plots of 20 x 20 m were sampled, launched in equidistant transects 80 m apart and equidistant 20 m plots. In the plots, all individuals of S. adstringens were sampled and their heights were measured by topographic sighting and their diameters at breast height (measured at 1.30m) with a bevel. Subsequently eight trees were selected in each diameter class, grouped by the Spigel formula, and were scaled by the Huber method to obtain the total volume with bark. Five samples were taken from disks at the 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% of the height of the commercial bole for the determination of the density of the bark and the wood; the dry weight of bark and the wood, and the volume without bark. We evaluated the behaviour of the density, the estimates of volume and height, the percentage of bark and the estimates of dry weight. This study was divided into four chapters. The first chapter is a review of the literature. In the second chapter, we study the basic density of barbatimão (Stryphnodendron adstringens), by analysing their behaviour in the bark, wood and in the different diameter classes. The third chapter is a study on the estimates of variable volume and height. Adjustments were made to the volumetric models of single and double entry for the total volume in the shell- shelled and total volume of bark were also hypsometric relations that were adjusted. We also assessed the proportion of bark of trees in different diameter classes. In chapter four, we studied the variable dry weight of barbatimão; selecting models of single and double entry to estimate the dry weight of the bark and the dry weight of the wood. Through this study it was found that the behaviour of the density of the shell along the stem has a cubic relationship that reduces from the base to the intermediate portion of the shaft, which practically does not vary, then falls on the tip. The attitude of the density of the wood along the stem showed a linear relationship, decreasing towards base-point. The selected equations for total volume with bark, total volume without bark and the volume of the bark were adjusted to the Husch and Spur model in its logarithmic form and the hypsometric relation relation was adjusted to the Stofel model. For the variable dry weight, the equations that fitted the Brenac and Spurr model in its logarithmic form for bark and the Husch and Spurr mode in its logarithmic form for the barbatimão wood were selected.
