In this study we analyzed the situation of informal workers who, despite being prohibited by the Municipal Code of Belo Horizonte, exert their activities on the street. To this end, we conducted a field survey, operationalized through two procedures: observation and informal conversations with street workers, city inspectors and military police. From the analysis of this reality in the light of theories of law, economics and sociology, we sought to understand about the right to work in the streets of Belo Horizonte. The research results demonstrate the need for implementation of the fundamental right to decent work for these workers especially through the revision of municipal legislation and the development of public policies that consider their needs within the context of the current world of work.
