Resumo: | The duration of project development represents a comparative advantage for companies in providing swift response to market demands. The pressure for accelerating information flow between tasks, aiming to reduce project duration, may result in rework, considering that increased speed generates uncertainty on data reliability. It becomes thus pertinent to conduct a comparative analysis between the time needed for project finalization and the costs involved, taking the impacts of rework into account. This work presents a model for estimation ofproject development duration, relying on a set of assumptions such as task overlapping, the moment of information exchange, the risks of rework and the resulting impacts of incomplete exchange of information. The Design Structure Matrix tool was adopted to map the intricate relations between the project tasks under the light of communication, bearing in mind it consists of an important aspect of project management processes. The conclusion of the study is that the uncertainty generated by hasty information exchange may increase the duration of the project, and it has to be evaluated, along with the cost fluctuation due to rework. From a practical point of view, the model estimates when is the best moment for performing information exchange between tasks. |
