Resumo: | The aim of the present study was to evaluate the therapeutic effect of a bacterin produced C. fetus subsp. venerealis NCTC 10354 on 32 bulls aged 5 to 7 years. Before vaccination, the experimental group was tested by direct fluorescence antibody technique (DFAT); 27 bulls were positive and 5 negative to C. fetus. The animals received two doses of vaccine 23 days apart. After the first dose 15 animals were DFAT positive, with a significant reduction of 44,45% (P< 0,05) in the frequency of infected bulls. After the second vaccination, 12 bulls were DFAT positive with a significant reduction of 55,5% (P< 0,05) in the frequency of infected bulls. However, there was no significant difference between the number of infected bulls after the first and after the second vaccination. |
