Resumo: | This search aims to study uniform title as musical works bibliographic records access point, considering theoretical and empirical aspects. Beginning from the concept, functions, formation and application of that important kind of metadata in libraries databases, it was investigated the presence of uniform titles for musical works records, occurred in catalogs of Brazilian music schools libraries. Having an exploratory character this study follows an eminently theoreticalinquisitive methodology. It has explored a dialogue with the knowing rules for descriptive representation of musical documents, the Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, 2nd ed., 2002 revision (AACR2, 2002) and the Library of Congress Rules Interpretations (LCRIs), specifically focusing the chapters regarding the formation and application of the uniform title. Discussions have been enlightened from Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records(FRBR) principles. The empirical part of this study has based on 48 libraries of Brazilian Music Schools. Musical works catalogers have been quest ioned if they normally use the uniform title when they create bibliographic records and which are their difficulties in this specific task. The results have demonstr ated a lack of knowledge concerning the catalogers practices on the importance of the uniform title to create bibliogr aphic records of musical works and, consequently, the results also have indicated a low use of this access point in the librariesbibliographical databases of Brazili an School of Music |
