Resumo: | The aim of this study was to evaluate the frequency of binge drinking by adolescents and its association with energy drinks, binge drinking by parents and best friend, socioeconomic conditions, religiosity and social capital. This is an exploratory study conducted in Belo Horizonte, MG, Brazil, with a sample of adolescents enrolled in grades 5 to 7 in seven public schools. Questions about socioeconomic conditions were sent to the parents. The students completed the test to identify problems related to alcohol use (AUDIT-C), Social Capital for Adolescents questionnaire (QCSAE), questions about energy drinks and binge drinking by parents and best friend. Descriptive analysis, Chi-square test, Fisher's exact test and univariate and multivariate logistic regression (p <0.05, 95% CI) were performed. Of the 22participants, 53.1% were female and 55.8% were 12-16 years old. The frequency of binge drinking in the last month was 12.8% and energy drinks was 23.9%. Adolescents who consumed energy drinks in the last month (OR: 3.475, 95% CI: 1.351-8.937, p = 0.010), and whose mothers drunken (OR: 3.315; 95% CI: 1.3188.338; p = 0.011) showed greater alcohol consumption . Social capital and religiosity were not associated with alcohol consumption between the adolescents. The conclusion was that the binge drinking by the adolescents was associated with the consumption of energy drinks and mothers binge drinking. |
