Resumo: Traditional agriculture is configured as one of the determinants factors of identity, culture and vazanteira territoriality. The vazanteiros have close relationship with the land and the river that establishes their production dynamics well as their territoriality from their behavior in periods of flood, drought and low water, defining the mobile and fixed territory. The vazanteiras territorialities are tied to their farming practices as well as their identities are ruled along the lines essentially agroecological ones. The aim of the research was to analyze and to characterize the agricultural practices and territorialities of vazanteiros of the Jenipapos island well as their interrelationships in Alto Médio São Francisco. The research relied on the study of combined techniques: started with bibliographic review, in loco visits with participant observation, focus interviews and analysis of content. The results signaled towards a strong relationship of the local agroecology with the reproduction of the space and its territorial dynamics. It also showed that when practicing traditional agriculture with agro-ecological character, the vazanteira community builds its territorialities, however, the loss of that territory or its reduction becomes a constant threat that could change the vazanteiros lifestyle and thus influencing the traditional practice of local agroecology.
