This dissertation is the result of a search about the use of the Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP) SAP R/3 carried out in the financial area of a Brazilian steel company. The search had the objectives of identifying why the company decides to implement a ERP system; analyze the parameterization phase of it; check if the needs of information to the financial management of the company were being meet; list eventual alternative systems and complementary softwares that are still being used to supply these deficiencies; and to point other eventual deficiencies of the system. It was used a descriptive-exploratory survey with a qualitative approach. The data were collected by semi-structured interviews, questionnaires, documents and reports used in the company and free observation. These data were analyzed by the case modelation method, with the help of a content analysis of the interviews and documents and by a graphic analysis of the data from the applied questionnaires. The conclusion was that the R/3 does not meet the needs of the company. As the result, the company has to use alternatives information systems and complementary softwares to eliminate these deficiencies. Others disadvantages of the ERP was also identified, like the problem in the parameterization phase of the system, lackness of training and a big waste of paper caused by the way the system prints the reports.
