Resumo: The following thesis analyzes the agenda building processes and the challenges in formulation of Distance Education institutional policies, in the context of offering Professional Education, having as investigative locus the institutions of Professional, Scientific and Technological Federal Education Network (RFEPCT). The work focus on the particular path of Education, Science and Technology Federal Institutes and has as the intention to foster the debate about public Distance Education in the context of the offer of Professional Education. The investigation seeks to comprehend the dimensions of Distance Education agenda building in RFEPCT, as well as the constitutive processes of formulation of institutional policies for the modality, from the experience of Minas Gerais Federal Institutes (IFs). In order to understand such aspects, it was developed research of qualitative nature, in form of a case study in the typology multi cases. It was made the documental analysis of normative and official texts, besides bibliographic research to examine the processes related to the agenda building of Distance Education in RFEPCT, as well as the path covered by mineiros institutes in relation to the formulation of institutional policies to the area in the investigated state. It is expected that the current research work offers an importante contribution to the debate about Distance Education, in the context of Professional Education, from some constituting dimensions of the area, that go from the agenda building for the modality in RFEPCT to the institutional policies formulation processes having as basis the 05 (five) Minas Gerais Federal Institutes. It is expected still that the developed study cooperates directly or indirectly with the offerer institutions, besides researchers, docents and managers involved with the offer of Professional Education in the modality, in order to foster the debate about the evidenced field of study and research, especially involving the institutionalization of Distance Education.
