Resumo: | A study of changes taking place from 1968 to 1974 in the music of the Brazilian composer Marcos Valle. Includes biography and discography, with a description of works. From the study of lyrics, music and recording processes of eleven LPs, an ensemble of traits emerges, setting the work of Marcos Valle within the universe of Brazilian music. Different methods of analysis are applied to a set of works, attempting to reveal changes in composition, vocal delivery, melodic syntax and functional harmony. Particular attention is paid to his contribution to musical multimedia from the creation of soundtracks and jingles to the recording of video clips for original songs. Groove, generally considered a feature of the composer, is examined from the point of view of theories concerning structural hierarchy and music perception. From 1968 to 1974, Marcos Valles music displays a combination of influences from both popular Brazilian culture and a cosmopolitan tradition, making it one of the first and longest-lasting expressions of Brazilian pop. |
