Resumo: The aim of this study was to investigate gender differences related to the quality of life and active aging elderly. "Aging, Gender and Quality of Life (AGEQOL)" is a study in Sete Lagoas, Minas Gerais, Brazil in 2052 with the elderly in 2012, through questionnaires and clinical examination. Data were analyzed by SPSS version 19 was built where the database and performing statistical analyzes considering a significance level of p 0.05. To know more in detail the expression of the determinants of active aging and quality of life in older adult life, the independent variables were grouped into an adapted theoretical model. The age of the total sample at baseline ranged between 60 and 106 years. The average age was 70.9 ± 8.1 years (71.3 ± 8.3 for women and 70.7 ± 7.8 for men). Most elderly males (63.0%) and female (57.0%) were satisfied with their oral health, despite the high prevalence of edentulism (66.4%). Regarding quality of life, the mean scores of the WHOQOL-Bref and WHOQoL-old were high, with values above 60 for both genders, active aging was explained by quality of life, factors related to health systems, environment social and economic and behavioral factors. The results are part of the baseline study. So it is not yet possible to determine whether there is a temporal relationship between gender active aging and quality of life and other variables.
