Restabelecimento estético e funcional em pacientes desdentados: percepção e impacto entre usuários da Faculdade de Odontologia da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais

Resumo: This study was carried out in order to evaluate the dental loss impact in Public Servive weares. It was used a quantitative and qualitative methods. The initial sample was composed by 50 volunteers and the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP14) questionnaire was applied to them quantitative method. In accordance with their OHIP score, twelve patients were intentionally selected for interviews (two for each one) among that 50 volunteers group qualitative method. The first interview happened before dentures placement and the second one, six months after. In both interviews, it was taken photografies of each volunteer, before and after the dentures use. The photos were presented to them in the second interview. By the OHIP scores reached by the initial sample, it was verified higher negative impact of oral condictions in psichological aspects of quality of life than in social relationships aspects. The analysis of patients statements allowed to see that total dental loss interfered in quality of life. It brought bad consequences like difficulty to eat, shame about their appearence and filling of not being complete. The dental replacement by removal prosthesis allowed for that persons, the physiognomys recuperation, joyfulness and social re-integration, although, in many times do not re-establish, in plenary way, their masticatory capacity.
