Resumo: | This work aimed to identify and analyze the factors that influence the intergenerational transition in agricultural enterprises, more specifically in coffee farms. Minas Gerais is the largest producer in Brazil and the world of Arabica coffee, which is why this study was concentrated in this state. Seventeen interviews were carried out with coffee producers and children of producers already active in the farms, in order to compose an overview on the conduct of succession processes in their establishments. The motivations for getting the children involved in the family business, as well as aspects of joint work such as planning and professionalization, were examined. In addition, we sought to understand the existence of conflicts and their repercussions on the continuity of the farm in the hands of the family. The results of the research suggest that family history and primary socialization are fundamental aspects for children to feel an integral part of the family organization. The children have been prepared for the succession in the management of the enterprise, given the challenges that have presented themselves to the administration of the coffee plantation. However, little attention has been paid to succession. Families should prioritize planning and communication in order to enable the continuity of the farm and avoid conflicts among its members |
