Resumo: The wood plastic, object of this work, is presented as an alternative for recycling polymers of higher consumption in Brazil. The fact of not being attacked by termites or fungi, does not absorb moisture, is resistant to chemicals and UV rays in general, have a low energy consumption in its production, is recyclable, among other properties, makes it a potential product for replacement wood, concrete or steel. Thus, formulations have been proposed for producing wood plastic with high density polyethylene recycled and scrap wood (wood shavings and dust). For analysis of the properties of the samples produced, mechanical tests, analytical and statistics were performed. It was observed that the inclusion of organic fiber in the polymer matrix is liable to decrease the capacity of elastic deformation and energy absorption capacity of HDPE. Furthermore, it can be seen that the addition of wood into the polymer did not occur chemical reaction, and therefore were not observed large changes in transition temperatures thereof. Statistical analysis confirmed these results and, finally, the economic modeling performed indicates that a new development for the production of wood plastic is feasible.
