Resumo: | Trans people use hormones to reduce characteristics attributed to the gender assigned as birth and to induce the characteristics desired by the person. Studies show the risks associated with the use of hormones. However, these drugs may be of central importance in the construction of trans bodies, and studies have shown that their use can be safe. But the violence to which the health system often subjects trans people creates barriers to their access to formal health. The construction of health possibilities happens mainly outside the health system, and the use of hormones is often made by self-medication. Thus, it is important to understand the experiences and demands of this population and to understand how they experience the use of hormones. Thus, this work aimed to understand the experiences of transsexual and transvestite women with the use of hormones. The methodology of the study is hermeneutic phenomenology, from a feminist perspective. Semi-structured interviews were carried out with 5 trans women. The researcher also carried out field diary notes on the interviews and moments in which she was specially inserted in events dedicated to the theme of trans health. The interviews were transcribed in full, as well as the field diary. The NVivo® 11 software was used to analyze the data. All of the women interviewed started the use of hormones in adolescence, by means other than medical prescription. In general, advice on the use of hormones is made by other transvestites. Several shortcomings have been demonstrated in meeting the health demands of transgender people: professionals lacking technical abilities, issues related to human rights violations and disrespect to trans identities, pathologization of trans experiences, lack of publich resources and lack of interest in care delivery. We have seen that the sharing of knowledge about hormones between trans and transvestite women is an important way of reducing harm to the risks of hormones. We also understood how effects of hormones materialize in bodies, what are the desired effects, and what feelings are evoked from the experiments of new corporalities. We understood how they experience and face adverse effects. Important issues were identified for the prescription of hormonal regimens that are safer and better meet the goals of the users. The need for the implementation of public policies that propose access to the procedures of corporal modification for free was an important point. It was also discussed the need for health professionals to be able to provide humanized, truly person-centered care with active and holistic listening. In this way, we present here the pharmaceutical professional as a possible link for care, especially in the offer of the comprehensive medication management services in the care of the trans person. |
