Resumo: The current work presents the results of the first study in the area of hydraulic engineering developed in a reach of the Velhas River, on the boundary between the cities of Belo Horizonte and Sabará. The reach, with 500 meters of length, is considered as experimental area, in which several restoring techniques will be implanted in the local. It is found inadvanced state of degradation, with accentuated processes of erosion and sediment deposition. The work consisted, therefore, in the study of the hydraulic behavior of the referred fluvial reach with the objective of analyzing the performance of revetment structures in mitigatingerosive process for rehabilitation of water courses. The analysis included the development a one-dimensional hydraulic model allowing the simulation of the current situation and proposed mitigation measures.Several protection techniques were studied, with special focus in the groynes and vegetative covers. For the dimensioning of the groynes some important references were used. However, it was verified that full consistency doesn't exist among several of the consulted references, leading to conflicting results. The results of simulations and observation of the behaviour of different techniques studied, which are being deployed at the site, should enable the verification of both the relevance of computer modeling as well as the actual efficiency and applicability of the techniques used.
