Resumo: | Both Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) and Peer-to-Peer (P2P) networks arc decentralized and self-organizing networks with dynamic topology and r(!sponsible for routing qu(iries in a distributed environment. Because MANETs are composed of resource-constrained devices susceptible to faults, whereas P2P networks are fault-tolerant, we argue that P2P networks are the ideal data sharing system for MANETs. This work deals with the integration of these networks in terms of routing and content discovery. To this end, we conducted the following studies: 1) a performance evaluation of the DSR, DSDV, and AODV ad hoc protocols under a Gnutella P2P network; and 2) a performance evaluation of the Chord and Gnutella P2P content discovery protocols over a MANET at which AODV played the role of routing protocol. We made use of simulation to carry out the studies under various scenarios and resultsindicated the importance of identifying precisely characteristics of the environment in question before committing to particular ad hoc or P2P protocols. |
