This thesis results from an ethnographic research about young prisoners' mothers in Porto Velho, held between 2014 and 2015, and continuing the researches developed before graduation. This work discuss the notion of being a mother of a son who is deprived of freedom. The stigma of outlaw given to the son is linked to the mother's identity, showing a two-fronted pressure over the idea of maternal care: both guilt and responsibility not only for the actions, but for the attendance of the imprisoned son. This situation, shared with other mothers, gives rise to the construction of a network of caring, as well as the negative experience of being submitted to the security procedures, situations that are mingled with gender, stigma and social vulnerability questions.
