Resumo: The process of agglomeration of particles is crucial for the successful production of steel by blast furnace. The sintering stands out among the processes of agglomeration due to the greater flexibility of this process. The composition of mixtures acts directly on the sintering process performance and on the sinter quality. This study appreciates the impacts of variation in the composition and quality of mixtures in sintering process by physical simulation. This job search beyond the small scale methodvalidation and provide information about the relationships, similarities and constraints between both methods by comparing the results obtained in the tests Small-scale method was found to be robust and capable to reproduce sintering process parameters and sinter quality due to mixture variation. Results show failures in physical quality predicts and also indicate some deficiencies on metallurgical properties. The same behavior is observed in the definition of the correlations. The equations developed for the productivity and for fuel consumption can be used to predict the behavior on the bigger methodology doing only physical simulation under small scale method. Thus, even appearing as a good substitute for the prediction of process parameters, smallscale method has weaknesses as in the prediction of physical and metallurgical properties of sinter.
