The study of the Amazonia Library Network (Rebam) hasbeen fulfilled through the institutional analysis, as a methodof documental analysis (which provides condition to visualizethe social contradictions in the organizational process), inconjunction with the structuralism (a method which studies theinterrelations of the organizational parts of a network). Rebamwas founded in 1973 in the "Amazonia Legal" in order to givesupport to the Brazilian National System of Scientific andTechnological Information (Snict). Its purpose was the storageand dissemination of information produced about Amazonia andby amazonian organizations. The network was constituted by I2institutions, under the coordination of the Superintendénciado Desenvolvimento da Amazonia (Sudam), However, Rebam did notsurvive for a long time and the main reasons were: the lack ofmaturity and technical preparation of its librarians;institutional and personal disagreement on both technical andpolitical matters; lack of financial commitment from memberorganizations; and institutional preponderance of Sudam overthe network.
