Resumo: The nursing work process in a university hospital in Belo Horizonte/Minas Gerais is studied. The work process can be developed in all health and teaching sectors, where activities are directed towards care, teaching, management, and research. In the context of nursing, the work is complex and multifaceted, requiring a set of knowledge, skills, and attitudes that are articulated in a specific way to produce transformation in nature, characterized by certain spheres of professional activity, forms of social contribution, and political insertion with which nurses and nursing professionals need to operate consciously. Nursing is one of the professions whose essence is the care of human beings, developing activities of rehabilitation, promotion, prevention, and health recovery. The nurse's work is conceptualized as a particular process of collective health work, having a subsidiary and complementary character. The nurse's work process emerges as an alternative for the nurse to reconnect with their patient, as it is a methodological work instrument that allows for a critical analysis of the client's health conditions and effectuates the performance of Nursing professionals. The nurse's work process defines the processes as: assisting, administering/managing, teaching, researching, and participating politically. Describing the nurse's work process in detail becomes essential to ensure the provision of high-quality services to clients and patients, while also allowing for the mapping of procedures through effective planning, contributing to the efficient structuring of the system in the hospital unit. These resources are fundamental to guiding the nurse's actions, which should be based on solid theories, applying clinical reasoning deliberately to achieve their objectives, whether curative, rehabilitative, or preventive, through the work process. General objective: to analyze the work process of nurses in a university hospital in Belo Horizonte/MG. Specific objective: to characterize the professional profile of nurses in a university hospital in BH/MG, to identify the activities performed by nurses in a university hospital in BH/MG, and to develop a technical report to substantiate a strategic plan to be proposed for nurses in a university hospital in BH/MG. Methodology: this is a qualitative research based on the theoretical framework of the nurse's work process. Data collection was conducted through semi-structured interviews with 24 nurses from the care area of a university hospital in Belo Horizonte/MG. Content analysis was used for data analysis. Results and data analysis: Four thematic categories were constructed, described as: the conception of nursing work from the nurses' perspective; organization of nurses' work; nurses' work tools; and the difficulties experienced in the nurse's work process. The analysis categories revealed the diversity of nurses' roles, the need for interdisciplinary collaboration, the use of work tools, and the internal challenges within the team. Conclusion: The nursing work process is in constant evolution, requiring a deep understanding and continuous adaptation from professionals. The research highlighted the complexity of this work, emphasizing the need to consider the overall context of health practices and the fundamental role of education in promoting positive changes.
