Resumo: | Situated in the interface of Education and Communication studies, this research investigated how young people from poor places see themselves represented by TV, analyzing the way young people from poor social classes of Belo Horizonte receive the Brazilian TV sections Minha Periferia, attraction that shows life in slums and poor districts. Exhibited in the program Fantástico (Fantastic), from Globo TV, Minha Periferia was presented throughout 2006, having Regina Casé as presenter. The analysis about how the viewers appropriate the sections was established from the studies of the sociology of the youth, the survey of discursive strategies used by the producers of Minha Periferia, the theoretical studies about televising reception and from interviews, obtained in four focal groups, of young people living in poor places related and non-related to artistic-cultural projects. The first ones had been chosen because the sections shown during the focal groups had as main mote the affirmation of young people from popular places through culture. The others had also been subjects of the research to verify if the perception of the sections was different when the receivers also had a distinct profile from that one of the young people represented in the productions. What it was apprehended in this study is that, when debating about Minha Periferia, the participants of the four groups had expressed themselves politically, discussing aspects of their identity issues. The young people non-related to the cultural scene had affirmed that the televising sections kept similarities with daily situations lived by them. On the other hand, the participants engaged in artistic-cultural projects had made more meaning negotiations with the representations propagated by Casé; they had considered that young people had been portrayed as supporting actors and not as protagonists of the attractions. Moreover, they had put at stake the legitimacy of the presenter to talk about poor classes, signaling that they search to break with a hetero representation, fighting for defining the way of representation of the young people from poor places, as well as that they possess the authority to produce these representations. |
