Resumo: Community libraries are created and managed by the communities they are intended for, especially in countries with less economic development, with the objective of filling the information gap resulting from the failure to guarantee their rights, contributing to the social and cultural development of these communities. They are characterized by cultural actions, notably to encourage reading, and it is common for the organization of information to be considered a secondary activity. As an institution that deals with the mediation of information, the library develops activities to organize information and services aimed at its audiences. Thus, the objective of the work is to identify and discuss the particularities of the organization of information in the context of community libraries, explaining some of their possible impacts for the public and for the institution. Specifically, the objective is to identify and examine the fundamentals, processes and instruments of information organization; the concept, characteristics, objectives and functions of the community library; and how information organization is developed, theoretically and in practice, in community libraries. Through literature selection, the theme was developed in three sections: in section 2 - Information organization - the fundamentals, processes and instruments of information organization are explained; in section 3 - Community libraries - an approach is made to the concept of community library, mentioning its origins and its relationship with the public library; and in section 4 - Organization of information in community libraries - the issue of organizing information in these libraries is discussed, considering their specificities, in addition to reporting the activities carried out in libraries in the country. In the end, it is stated that, if community libraries aim to seek the rights of the communities in which they are created, it is necessary that these libraries develop as fully as possible, with which greater possibilities of qualified access to information must occur.
