Concrete structures frequently suffer corrosion and several degradation forms even before they complete their service life. This dissertation intends to present a critical review about available materials and technologies to repair and reinforce concrete structures. Other aspects like experimental instrumentation, non-destructive methods and the importance of construction controls are presented and discussed as well. Several aspects related to structural corrosion, new materials and technologies are analyzed based on the most recent knowledge available in the specific literature. It is important topoint out the lack of proper Brazilian standards in order to develop proper reinforcement projects andthe respective building steps. Further this, the deficiencies in the educational process of civil engineers about this subject are considered as the major causes of insufficient structural repairs and reinforcements.
