Resumo: Understanding a nurses role in promoting health for health insurance, a segment traditionally related to healing based on a medical model, is relevant for the profession particularly considering the extended role of a nurse in prevention programs and health promotion programs. In addition, it serves as an important field open to nurses. This study is concerned with identifying the perception of employees, linked to a health insurance plan, regarding nurses services at a specific job location. Second, this study is concerned with understanding the perception of these employees with regard to the promotion of health and the prevention of diseases. Qualitative case studies were conducted in 02 (two) companies that were clients of a health insurance company. A health promotion program was implemented by the insurance company and conducted by the nurses. The data collected included interviews with 10 workers involved in the program. The results were submitted to content analysis. The results show that the workers accept the nurse in actions related to health promotion, although there is some suspicion as to why they are not being treated by doctors. The actions are initially perceived as being the supervision of orders received, keeping in mind that not all were followed. This study also shows that employees know little about a nurses capacity to act autonomously in programs of such nature, therefore associating a nurses function with following doctors orders. With regard to actions related to health promotion programs and disease prevention programs, employees show they are sensitive to the care given to them, as employees of the company, and to their families. Hence they make an effort to follow the orientations given to them and to show positive results to the nurses. The employees perceive an improvement with regard to the access to service and they feel taken care of. In addition, they compare this experience with other health plans they have had and recognize this experience as being innovative, which can be seen as benefits for the employee. On the other hand, this strategy taken by the company can help improve the quality of life of the users and help reach the objectives of reducing costs related to assistance, resulting from costly interventions in cases of sickness.
