Resumo: | The heterogeneity and scarcity of comparative data between the age groups of people with schizophrenia reveal a poorly studied health situation and a doubly vulnerable population. This cross-sectional observational study carried out a comparative analysis between individuals with schizophrenia up to 49 years old and those over 50 years old in relation to sociodemographic, behavioral, clinical and quality of life aspects. The group over 50 years of age has a proportionately greater composition of females, who are not single, retired and self-declared white, use psychosocial care centers less, have lower rates of suicide attempts and higher rates of comorbidity, compared to the younger ones. Olanzapine was the most used antipsychotic. Quality of life indicators did not show statistically significant differences between groups. Public health and psychosocial policies should focus on the differences found between age groups. |
